Marietta defeats Westminster 2-0 to win consolation game at Soccer Classic
Muth scores two goals in victory

Sept. 7, 2008

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men’s soccer team bounced back from last night’s overtime tie with Walsh University to defeat Westminster (Pa.) College 2-0 in Sunday (Sept. 7) morning’s Marietta College Classic consolation match. The win improved Marietta’s record 2-0-2, while Westminster fell to 3-2.

Junior forward Kyle Muth (Twinsburg) scored both Pioneer goals on the day, one in each half. The first of Muth’s goals came when fellow junior Dan Cawley (Marietta) played a ball from the back that landed at Muth’s feet. Muth then calmly chipped the keeper from 15 yards out to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. Muth struck again in the 76th minute, this time benefiting off a cross from freshman midfielder Mike Lomas (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Kentwood).
